Why join the Sixth Form at Clifton?
The Sixth Form at Clifton offers young people an exceptional education with academic, cultural, recreational and social opportunity in preparation for university and adult life.
The school’s size, location and nature make it an ideal choice for boys and girls with a diverse range of characters, talents and interests.
Clifton is a safe and secure environment, but one that benefits enormously from its proximity to the city of Bristol - few schools have such a range of museums, galleries, theatres, cinemas, cafes, restaurants or shops within such a short distance of the campus.
40 – 50 girls and boys join the Lower Sixth Form each year from a variety of different schools in the UK and overseas, making, the Sixth Form a cosmopolitan, highly motivated and active student body of about 300 pupils.
Social integration into the Sixth Form is usually rapid and new pupils very quickly feel at ease.

Clifton offers a broader range of subjects for A Level study that is often the case in smaller schools, or with the IB. These include: Philosophy, Psychology, Business Studies, Economics, Ceramics, History of Art, Theatre Studies and Physical Education.
An additional timetable sector allows the choice of a further two disciplines from a wide range of options aimed at broadening and enriching the education experience for Sixth Formers (“The Clifton Baccelaureate”), such as: Critical Thinking, Chinese, Italian, Media Studies, Photography and Young Enterprise.
Most pupils select four subjects to study up to AS Level in the Lower Sixth and reduce these to three subjects taken at A2 Level in the Upper Sixth.

Further opportunities for intellectual and personal development include weekly lectures and debates, the chance to meet influential leaders of industry and commerce in Bristol at our Institute of Directors breakfasts, work experience, participation in our Clifton in the Community outreach programme, or membership of the CCF which organises outward bound activities as well as leadership training.
Sixth Formers are also entrusted with leadership and organisational responsibilities in the Houses and as School Prefects.
Chapel is central to life at Clifton and the morning services aim to challenge and question opinions and values and to encourage a real sense of community and mutual responsibility.

An important feature of Sixth Form life is the Junior Common Room (JCR) which provides the older pupils the opportunity to meet, talk and relax on their own terms.
Based in the Crypt beneath the Chapel, it is open as a café and common room during the day, after prep in the evenings and is a popular social centre.

Sixth Form pupils have more choice in terms of games and activity options.
Senior teams in the major sports play on a very competitive schools circuit but there is ample opportunity for them to excel in a number of more individual sports such as fencing and golf, or simply to enjoy their sport in a non-competitive way.
Music, Drama and Dance are popular activities and a new Dance Studio was opened in September 2007.

One of the many strengths of the school is that the vast majority of pupils go on to study at their first-choice universities.
One of the reasons that there is a very high demand for places in the Sixth Form at Clifton is the School’s reputation for success in winning places at Oxford and Cambridge universities for 10 – 20 pupils each year.
