Clifton College Website
East Town
East Town prides itself on attracting a wide range of pupils, who are able to represent the House well on the sports field, in Art, Drama and Music. The emphasis is on pupils reaching their potential academically and having a full extra-curricular programme.
History
Founded in 1957. The original site of the House was in Hammond but East Town moved into the front half of Dakyns in 28 College Road.
Previous housemasters include John Kendall-Carpenter, Brian Moore, Bob Bailey and Lionel Binns.
Chris Serle, John Inverdale and the golfer Michael Lewis are some of our famous old boys.
House Strengths
East Town has had particular success recently in Drama with an outstanding production of ‘The Producers’, directed by James Meunier and Tim O’Hara’s production of ‘Tom Thumb’. On the Sports Field, the House has been strong in cricket and football, with the 5th Form and 3rd Form being amongst the best sportsman in the School. We have had some excellent academic results with a number of recent pupils gaining places at Oxford and Cambridge – Simon Read, Daniel Hubbard, Andrew Hollingbury, Hugo Robinson and Tom Guest to name a few. East Town prides itself on its House Spirit.
House Activities
One of the main activities in the House is snooker on a full-sized Billiard table in the House Hall. Summer sees House Barbeques taking place in the garden and a weekend trip to Cornwall where there is a chance to go surfing and water skiing in the Camel Estuary in Rock. Bowling, caving and paintballing have been recent outings.
