Resources
Clifton College has a wealth of sporting resources which are being constantly upgraded. The sports facilities are outstanding; the Beggar Bush site has
95 acres of land dedicated to sport; three newly resurfaced (sand dressed) Astroturf pitches, which convert into 24 tennis courts. In October 2003 an indoor
facility for tennis and netball opened. Facilities on the College site are already impressive, yet a vast redevelopment programme is under way, displaying
Clifton’s commitment to success in a full range of sports.
Teaching
Specialist physical education teachers coach and teach the full range of Key Stage 3 and 4 activities in line with National Curriculum recommendations. The aims of the department are to offer the opportunity to all pupils to fulfil their potential and succeed in their chosen sports. A Level Sports Studies is offered in the Sixth Form and from 2004, GCSE PE will be included in curriculum. The progression through each stage of a pupil's sporting development is carefully monitored to maximize success for all abilities.
Sport Scholarships
At 13+ there are Sport Scholarships offering up to a 25% reduction of full fees. These are for boys and girls who show exceptional potential at one
sport or a high level of skill at two. The major team sports of cricket, hockey, rugby, football and tennis are where sporting excellence is sought. Once
given a scholarship the pupils receive a personal trainer and are offered the right opportunities to progress in school sport and beyond. Sixth Form
scholarships are available for sports people with a proven track record at a high level in one particular major game.
Links with outside clubs
Clifton College has an excellent sporting reputation within the City of Bristol and looks to link with sporting clubs in the local area. Pupils play
at the professional academy level with Bristol Rugby, Bristol City and Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. At local club level Clifton Rugby Club, Firebrands HC and Bristol AC are keen for Clifton College sportsmen and women to feed into their clubs.
