Events

The library hosts various events throughout the school year, including author visits and other activities.

Martin Bell OBE, a former BBC war reporter, became in 1997 the first independent MP to be elected to Parliament since 1950 and he has since campaigned tirelessly for trust and transparency in British Politics.

The Percival Library is proud to offer an opportunity to meet him and hear him speak about his politics and his political writing on Friday September 17th. This will be an exciting chance to share in his experiences and knowledge, and to learn more about him and his writing.

A VERY BRITISH REVOLUTION: The Expenses Scandal and How to Save Our Democracy

Martin Bell's 'A Very British Revolution' book cover

Drawing on his experience as an MP and as a member of the Committee on Standards and Privileges, Martin Bell’s latest work explains how the expenses crisis arose and, most compellingly, lays out his prescription for healing the deep wounds inflicted by the scandal. As Martin says: ‘The revolution will not be complete until all the rogues in the House are gone and public confidence in the MPs remaining is restored.’ This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revive British politics, and the rebuilding starts here.

Copies of Mr. Bell’s books will be available to purchase on the night and there will be book signings after the talk. Drinks and nibbles will be provided.

Ticket price: £3 in advance, £5 on the night.
Doors open: 5:30pm (talk will begin at 6pm)
Venue: Recital Hall, Joseph Cooper Music School, Clifton College, Guthrie Road, Clifton, Bristol. (Please see college map)
