The Percival Library
The Percival Library is a Grade 2 listed building and was originally built between 1870 and 1874 as a library and natural history museum at the expense
of John Percival, the first Headmaster. It has recently undergone a sensitive major refurbishment project and re-opened on October 28th, 2002.

The new Percival Library Complex comprises three main rooms, plus a mezzanine. There are 98 study places; comprising 62 desk spaces with network points
in the main library, 22 network points on the ground floor of the ICT room, with 14 network points on the mezzanine level. The library hosts various
events and author visits throughout the year.
The Percival Library also houses the Careers Library and has a collection of Victorian literary criticism often used by university researchers. Those
who wish to research into the history of the school or the lives of Old Cliftonians are also regularly welcomed into the Percival Library.

since the 1994 register.
The library is frequently included on tours by students of librarianship as a model of good school library practice. Those wishing to visit for any of
the above reasons are requested to contact the College Librarian, Miss Anne Allan.
The library has a multi-media stock, currently including approximately 30,000 books, plus periodicals, newspapers in English,
French, German and Spanish and an increasing stock of videos, CD-ROM's and DVD's. The Percival library uses the Oliver Library System to issue stock
and has a Plescon Security System. Two dedicated PCs are available in the library to view the catalogue, this is also available on all 400 of the networked
school computers. We hope to develop the Percival Library presence on the College's Intranet site, as well as introducing more autonomous learning
opportunities.
We are developing the Percival Library presence on the College's Intranet site, Sharepoint, as well as introducing more autonomous learning
opportunities such as on-line subscriptions to World Book on-line.
The College also has a separate science library, the Stone Library, which houses approximately 5,000
science-related texts.
"I have been enormously impressed by the conscientiousness and helpfulness of the library staff, they have developed almost preternatural insight into the
pupils' needs, and would recommend the library, both as a resource and a workspace, as one of the best assets that the school has to offer."
Ollie Moody (Sixth form Oxbridge applicant)
