FRENCH IN YEAR 6
Introduction
The aim is to develop the learning of French and to stimulate a lasting interest in the French language and the French culture and traditions.
The course used in Year 6 is Expo 1, a modern course in which the four Attainment Targets of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing are taught equally.
More emphasis will be put on accurate spelling and grammar this year, in particular verbs and tenses.
Pupils in Year 6 have three lessons and one prep per week. Beginners will be given Language support.
Assessments:
Our course provides two formal means of assessment:
Continuous assessments in the form of Activities in the pupil books.
An end of Module test or contrôle which covers all four skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.
Linguistic objectives
Expo 1
Module 3: Chez moi
Talking about where people live, saying what kind of town you live in, saying where it is.
Saying what kind of house you live in, naming the rooms in the house, saying what there is
on each floor. Describing your bedroom, saying where things are. Talking about what you do
at home, saying what you don’t do. Telling the time, counting up to 60.
Module 4: On va en ville
Asking and talking about places in a town. Asking for and understanding simple directions. Saying where you are and where you are going. Expressing opinions. Ordering drinks and snacks, asking the cost and understanding prices.
Module 5: Ma journée
Talking about what your daily routine. Talking about your school subjects, saying what you
like and don’t like. Giving opinions and reasons. Talking about your timetable, understanding
and composing a longer text. Talking about what you do after school, counting up to 100.
Grammar
‘er’ verbs in full, negatives, il y a ,avoir, être, aller, faire, question words,’ir’ verbs, ‘re’ verbs, reflexive verbs.
