Clifton College WebsiteYear 5 trip to the British Museum
"We left school at 7.30 in the morning. It took us three hours to get to the museum. The British Museum is the best I’ve ever been to. The roof was really high, it made you feel like an ant. My favourite was the Sutton Hoo part. It was because the helmet actually had some left. There were sword blades but the handles had rotted away. I will never forget the experience." "When I was on the coach, I thought the British Museum was going to be dull and boring, but, when I went to the Egyptian section and saw the arm of the big statue, my eyes nearly fell out of their sockets. It was as big as six King Kong arms put together! I think this was the most fascinating museum ever because there was so much to see." "The ceiling, which was made of pure glass and all bumpy, was awe-inspiring. When I saw the ancient Egyptian human corpse, it sent a beam of disgust down my spine, but after I had looked at it properly I realised it was really just astonishing that it had been preserved so long." "This trip was really fun! First we explored the Egyptians, then we went on to the Romans. We drew pictures of weapons, mummies and even heads. I really liked the tapestry and mosaics. It was fun learning new things and writing fantastic facts." "My favourite part was the Egyptians. I like the Rosetta Stone. Also there was a statue which had just the head and it was massive. I wonder how big the body was! The roof was amazing, it was made of glass. I liked the Viking bit, as well as seeing all the things they used for cooking and farming. By the stairs there was a massive totem pole, I never knew they were so big!" "My best bit was Sutton Hoo. The helmet was old and tattered. I believe it was once worn by Offa, the king of Mercia. The burial was fit for a king and full of jewels, crowns and rich glamorous things. I also enjoyed the Roman faces, some were old, some rich and one was Julius Caesar. I really enjoyed my trip and thought it was brilliant." ![]() ![]() © 2006-8 Clifton College | Forthcoming EventsGirls' Hockey: U16 Regional Tournament Three-Quarter Exeat begins Exeat Weekend | |||||||||||||||
