Year 4 : St Fagans, Cevedon – and cleaning up the environment!

  • In History we have been learning about Celts and Romans
  • Year 4 of Clifton College went to St Fagans and experienced what it would look and feel like long ago.
  • The day has come. We are off to St Fagans! I took a tablet and away I went with my money and camera.
    St Fagans
  • It took about an hour so me and Liam played top trumps.
  • When we arrived, me and Jamie went mad with the camera!
  • When we got there we split into two groups. Everything was really good – except the rain!
  • First of all you see a row of cottages which gradually get fuller
  • The Welsh house was very smoky inside. We didn’t go upstairs because it was too dangerous.
  • We saw the mattress which was really hard. I prefer my bed more than theirs!
  • After lunch we went to visit the garden of a giant house. It was wonderful!!!
  • We went to the Celtic village. It was a bit freaky because, when you walked in, there were skulls on top of the gate. Then we went to the Water Mill and a man showed us how it works
  • We saw how they make different types of flour and oats.
  • Inside was a fire in the middle, grain, crops and cups. We were lucky because we saw three men building a roundhouse out of wattle and daub. There was also a shield and a spear. They were for hunting.
  • They were reconstructing a roundhouse from what archaeologists have found out. Then we went to the cock pit where cocks used to be put on the stone slab and fight with spikes on their feet.
  • To me it felt like I was a real Celt. It was brilliant!
  • Then we went to olden days shops and saw what they might have looked like
  • Then we saw the shop and I bought some sweets. Yum, yum!!
  • Next to the sweet shop was a bakery that sold scones and bread. You could smell the bread cooking.
  • We went to the school where we saw a whip and this thing they put around your neck if you speak Welsh. If you are a left hander, you would have to write with your right hand.
  • We had a great time at St Fagans. It had really good, realistic houses and Celtic roundhouses.
  • Jamie Tippett, a student on the trip, says ‘Everything was beautiful. My favourite part was walking through the Palace gardens. What a lovely place it was!
  • I strongly believe you should go to Clevedon, because your child would love to paddle in the sea and you could go to the pier and go fishing. It is also a nice place and you could go to the Arcades or the beach and play parks. There are hotels, too, with facilities for children and rooms with private WCs and baths.
  • Dear Mr Tait. Thank you for coming to our classroom. We found out lots of interesting information from you. We are now sending letters to Dr Spurr and Dr Acheson about how much we recycle.
  • We strongly believe the Pre should recycle more. Lots of people say that it’s too much money to recycle but it’s not much to save the Earth.
  • We fill up 25/30 industrial bins of waste a day. Broken furniture is taken by lorry to the tip and £1000s of pounds are spent replacing it. For our planet’s sake we must do something about this!
