Second in the Country! Clifton College U18 Squad, National Schools Hockey Finals 2008

The Clifton College U18 squad captained by Annabel Hockey-Smith and vice-captain Emily Atkinson played in the National Schools Finals in Surrey on Sunday 2 March 2008. This competition takes the best from each region into a round-robin tournament of the best five schools in the country for that age group.

The route to the finals was not easy. They won the Avon County Tournament after winning all their games. Each county winner then plays in the West Regional Tournament where they beat Millfield, Marlborough, Channel Islands, Cheltenham College, Hereford School, and Truro School.

At the Nationals, they drew 2–2 with Queenswood, beat St Edwards Oxford 2–1, beat Hymers 1–0, and lost to the winners, Repton 2–0.

The pathway to the Finals saw them playing from September to March, playing 17 Tournament matches to reach the finals, and losing only one game to the eventual winners of the trophy. It is an extremely difficult Tournament to play in and the girls were professional and dedicated throughout.

They have made Clifton College very proud to have one of the top two teams in the country.
