Sometimes older children from the Big School come and help in our classes. They spend time showing us things and are really kind.

In the Upper School, there is a programme of Monday Afternoon Activities (MAA) for the pupils to spend some time contributing to the local community. Helping out in the classroom at Butcombe is just one such activity.

"I am currently studying French, Spanish, Geography and English in the Lower Sixth and on Monday afternoons I help out in Butcombe. Recently I have been concentrating on developing a French student’s English which has proved beneficial to the both of us. I am so impressed with the improvement he has made. Such an experience has been extremely enjoyable and working with 6 year old children has enabled me to develop valuable skills for the future, even causing me to consider teaching as a career! Everyone was so happy and friendly to work with making it a brilliant experience."

"My name is Caroline and I am in Upper Sixth at Clifton College. I am currently studying English Literature, History and Spanish and from September I have a place to study English and American Studies at Birmingham University. Every Monday afternoon I help out in a Year 1 class in Butcombe which is a great experience for me as I hope to become a primary school teacher in the future. I help the children primarily with their art work, but also with their reading and maths and I find this really enjoyable. It is really nice to be involved in the class and to get to know all of the children a little more each week."
